I'm published!

Here are a couple of pictures from the issue of Mailbox News, which is a popular cake decorating magazine I subscribe to. I had one of my fall cakes published. The cake is the two tiered one with the maple leaves on the right. I was very excited to have it in the magazine!

Parties!

I have not posted on my blog for awhile now. I wanted to update with two parties from the past few weeks. The first is my dad's birthday. He turned the big 5-4. He opted for raspberry filled cupcakes.

The second party was a baby shower for my friend Melissa. She had a duck theme for her shower. She's not sure yet whether she's having a boy or girl. I made the diaper cake with the ducks on it. I still have a couple more weeks before our baby shower.

Abby the Pug

We have a new addition to the Emmons' family. This is Abby the pug. She belongs to Cathy and Larry as of last week. In the picture is her with the bone TY Beanie baby dog toy we sent her. She will be coming up here in October so we can meet her. She looks a lot like our little Penelope.

Bicycles and Wet Railroad Tracks

Well, we had an early morning visit to the Emergency Room at Covenant Hospital on Wednesday morning. Shane was riding his bike to work and I get a phone call that he had fallen. The railroad tracks on Bradley Rd. were slick causing him to fall and hurt his shoulder, thigh and left wrist badly, but it could've been so much worse. I'm very thankful he's okay. Med Express wasn't open so we took him to ER to have x-rays done. They didn't see a break, but he has to go in for more soon to see if his thumb was broken. Sometimes that doesn't show up for awhile. He's wearing this lovely splint as you can see in the picture. He should have that for about 10 days. The hardest thing is that he can't type very well.

The nursery painting is complete!

After many, many hours of painting, the nursery painting project is finally done. The walls are a light purple called "Misty Violet" and the butterflies, tree, and letters were drawn on by hand and painted with a paint three shades darker for contrast. VAE stands for Violet Ann Emmons. Now, onto organizing the closet... :)

We're having a girl!!

Little Kicking Feet

Yesterday Shane and I went to the 20 week ultrasound for the baby. We were in the room for about 20 minutes and got to see so many neat things like the heart beating, and feet kicking. We saw the spinal cord and saw her bring her hand up to her face like she was going to suck her thumb. The biggest thing we found out was that the baby was a girl! Shane and I went to the store after the ultrasound and picked out a purple and pink piggy bank with the baby's name on it- Violet. My mom is coming today to go shopping with me for baby girl stuff. We're very excited and on to the project of painting the nursery.

The Lighthouse and the Pink Umbrella

Our friends Keith and Jenny invited us up to Caseville last weekend to visit and stay in Keith's parents' cabin. Friday when we got up there, we went to the Marina on Lake Huron to try out Keith's new toy, which actually when we looked a little closer resembled a floating purple hot tub. It's name was "Plum Crazy". I think we exceeded the 600 lb. weight limit when all four of us piled in and the nose of the boat was practically in the water. We did take it for a spin, though, which was fun. The next day they took us on a tour up around the thumb stopping at different Marinas. We stopped in Port Austin to see their Farmer's Market there. Keith got some pictures of some John Deere tractors there. The weather that day was rainy on and off so we sported our umbrellas for the trip and Shane was very fashionable when we walked around the lighthouse area with his Lapeer West Marching Band shirt and my pink umbrella. We stopped at the Thumb's Largest Ice Cream Cone place in Grindstone on the way back. Shane and I had a great time and so did our pugs. Thank you Keith and Jenny for a great time! We should do it again next year when David, Erin, Jacob and Nathan can come too.
